my 97 eclipse had a big problem when i started it ...i replace the starter and the battery. so after it was running i shut it off and i cant restart it because i have no lights on the dash no nothing......i swapped the alternator out. when i did this i put cables on it to jump it and the alt popped and smoked i also blew the 100 amp main fuse for the alt. I have been checking all the connections, grounds, hot wires and still nothing.
Anyone with some ideas?:Suicide:

Yeah I agree, Sounds like a short , possibly hot wire touching some metal........Maybe even a hot wire touching the Alt housing.......

see thats the thing the alt got taken out and put in the same way it came......i have taken it out a few times before......it has a red bunch of wires, a ground and a plug in. and its all connected the way it was before when it worked. i have spent all last night tracing all the wires, seeing if something is loose or unplugged......i didnt see anything its making me crazy

I'd say a pinched wire could be your issue, sometimes it is something really simple. Get a Haines manual or google similar issue you will probab,y find ur answer.
