The all new Mitsubishi Evolution 10

Number 10 is Alive !

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution first entered the sports car market in 1992 with the number one. It had 250 bhp and all wheel drive. It was succeeded by the two and three which shared the same body shell. A new shape arrived in 1995 while the engine put out 280 bhp. The evo five was launched in 1998 and with a stockier body it gave the average onlooker an idea of the power and agility inside. The best evo ever was the tommi makinen evo 6.5. It was the last of the nineties shape and had staggering acceleration. The car had a wild body kit and extra goodies.
Over the years the all wheel drive sedan has attracted quite a following. When the seven came out some of these fans may have been a bit disappointed. The brutal looks had somewhat dissipated. The car had actually evolved with a bit more torque and an active transmission. The drive is still just as good in the current nine. The car is seriously fast achieving 0 – 100 in as little as 4.4 seconds (Jap spec). There have also been some special modified editions making up to 400 bhp. The evolution ten has to be even better right? If it isn’t then we might become monkeys again. Mitsubishi have not released the evo 10. The original prototype was released last year. With its wide stance and futuristic interior it got a lot of people excited.

The most recent version was released at the Detroit motor show last month. It was slightly toned down. I think this is what the road going version will look like when it is released in September.

The evo 10 is an all new car. It shares the same body as the all new standard lancer but has what Mitsubishi call s-awc. Basically this means the all-wheel drive, stability control, yaw control and active transmission work together to take the evo to the next level. It also has active suspension and steering stability control so it should be amazing. I just hope all these extras don’t take the feel out of the car. The engine is still a single turbo charged two litre. An aluminium block replaces the old one. The engine will probably be good for about 320bhp (approx 230 kW) and up from 400 nm to 440 nm. This car will be crazy.
That’s enough power to propel the car from 0 -100 in 4.5 seconds. So it’s super quick. All that in a hooted up lancer. The most noticeable change will be its auto gear box. What you say! Yes an auto with paddle shifters. Just like a Ferrari. It’s actually a manual gearbox with an auto clutch, so does this mean Mitsubishi are going to do F1. Maybe if AWD is an option.Another thing that has been said about the evo 10 is that the build quality has improved which I think is needed if they are going to continue asking the high price for this car. At the moment most people would opt for the Subaru for this reason. Judging on what I hear it will cost around 70 grand.Overall the evo 10 is fantastic from front to back. It pushes all the right buttons and has amazing performance. I think it is a huge leap forward not just for Mitsubishi but for performance cars in general. If the price is right then I think Mitsubishi will sell heaps of these cars in Australia.

i hate the new look, well i guess i shouldn't say HATE, but utterly dislike nicer? idk i know over the years the evo body has changed, but the transformation from the IX to the X is just ugly if you ask me. it makes me think of that concept camaro chevy was dicking around with.

some people say it looks meaner then the VIII or the IX but i think it just looks silly. especially with the black space of nothingness right in front... seriously wtf were they thinking??? urgh. the X looks timid and just looks like any other car to me now. it doesn't really stand out as anything but ugly.

and if they built it to try and appeal to more people with families, thats bullshit as well. i have a 1 yr old son and my 4dr lancer works just perfect. and shit at our MOD events i see plenty of evo's running with car seats. the evo was already family like... so if that was there bullshit excuss its ghey!!

The only thing i really like about the body is the front bumper. I would like to see what the evo 8/9 look like with that bumper that was made to fit. But i think the rear bumper is ugly and they cut it too short.

I admit - i didn't like the change. I hated the new body style, but as i've seen cars up close i think the color has a lot to do with the car. I think white, grey, blue, and red really set off the car's lines. If someone wanted to give me an X, i certainly wouldn't refuse.

I LOVe the front end of the EVo X. If I had the cash, I'd have a blue one in a heartbeat
