I have a '95 Mustang V6, it has a blown head gasket which is common for that engine and had 221k on the odometer.

Ok, changing the head gasket is no biggie, but while having the head off, common sense say to take them both in for a rebuild.

I am leery of putting new heads on a high mile engine for fear of the increase in compression would cause it to start burning oil. So I checked into a rebuild kit for the engine and all are around a ridiculous $900 and they don't even come with pistons for that price.

I found a place in Michigan that will sell me a rebuilt engine with 3 year warranty for $1400 and I am thinking this is the way to go, what to you think?

Is the rebuilt motor....rebuilt with anything special? Higher HP? stock parts? also if you were to rebuild your own motor...could you do it yourself and for less or equal money than 1400? Im thinking depending on what you can find and/or if you are willing to look...might be worth your while to rebuild your own, that way you will know what you have instead on depending on someone else's word.
^something to ponder^

What i would do....

Source a strong v8 and do the swap :p Charge it, through some slicks on it...and have some fun :D

The cost is about the same total, the rebuilt engine is stock. I can rebild the old one no problem as far as the work goes.

That's the wife's car, and the way she drives it doesn't need a v8.
